Prof. Max Cooke
James in a passionate chamber musician. He has a vast amount of experience in piano accompaniment, having commenced his training at the Victorian College of Arts Secondary School in 2009. Since then, he has accompanied soloists at all levels, ranging from beginner to university standard. In 2015, he was awarded the Margaret Schofield Accompanist Encouragement Award at the 34th National Liederfest.
James has performed in all kinds of musical groups over the last few years – ranging from duos and trios to accompanying choirs of more than 400 singers – which has enabled him to further enhance his ensemble awareness. He also has experience in working as a piano repetiteur. His number one aim is to bring out the best in every soloist, supporting them to reach their maximum potential, and of course, to have loads of fun!
James holds rehearsals at his house in Templestowe Lower. He is able to communicate in English, Mandarin and Shanghainese, and holds a valid Working with Children Check.
