PIANO LESSONS

“An exemplary performance” – Dr Kenji Fujimura

James is an exciting and passionate piano teacher who provides a positive learning experience in which each individual student is able to excel at their own pace.

Having played the piano since a very young age, and performed at Carnegie Hall in New York, he has gained much valuable experience and knowledge on music performance which he looks to pass on to anybody who wants to learn. He has been awarded the Bachelor of Music (BMus), Associate in Music (AMusA) and Licentiate in Music (LMusA).

James teaches students of any age and ability. He offers comprehensive preparation for AMEB exams at all levels, which includes teaching his students music theory and general knowledge where pertinent. He also helps to prepare students for VCE Music Performance, in which he obtained a study score of 50 and the Premier’s Award.

In his lessons, close attention is paid to technique and musicality. James is a firm believer that developing a sound technique during the early stages of learning will reap rewards when advancing to higher levels. At the same time, however, an enjoyment and appreciation of the nuances of music-making is crucial to making a good performance great. James will always try his very best to ensure that both goals are met.

James offers face-to-face lessons at his home in Canterbury, as well as online lessons. He is able to communicate in English, Mandarin and Shanghainese, and holds a valid Working with Children Check.
